Aria Club Hires Libby Maio to Oversee its Yoga Program
As Yoga Supervisor, Maio brings a unique style of teaching that incorporates Pranayama techniques, Banda locks, chanting, and guided meditation
VAIL, CO – Apr. 24, 2013 – Shaun Evans, general manager at Aria Spa and Club, Vail Valley's largest fitness and athletic club, hired Certified Yoga Instructor Libby Maio to direct the club's growing yoga program. With more than 13 years of yoga instruction and management experience, Maio joins Aria at a critical time as the club begins efforts to expand its yoga department. As Yoga Supervisor, Maio will oversee the yoga program in Vail and work closely with Evans and Mike Benedict, Aria’s athletic director, to enhance its yoga programming, incorporate diverse teaching styles and introduce new membership benefits.
Maio's career began in Beacon Hill, MA where she studied Hatha Yoga for two years before moving to Vail where she worked under Argie Tang, a renowned athletic yoga instructor. In Dec. 2002, Tang promoted her to studio manager at Yoga for Athletes (Y4A). She continued to study directly with Tang and other certified yoga instructors and in two years she completed 200 hours of teacher training and began teaching at Y4A in Dec. 2004. She continued her studies learning about yoga philosophy and anatomy as well as taking Anusara, Ashtanga, Viniyoga and Vinyasa workshops. Prior to joining Aria Athletic Club, Maio taught private yoga classes throughout the Vail Valley.
"Libby has been teaching Vail yoga classes at Aria Club for the past four years and she continues to impress me with her unique teaching style and contagious passion and enthusiasm for yoga," said Benedict. "She has done an amazing job as an instructor and we are excited to have her onboard as we invest resources to enrich and expand our yoga program."
When she is not teaching yoga, Maio takes time to further her yoga education by attending programs nationwide, such as Transformational Yoga retreats at the Kripalu Center in Lenox, MA with Charles and Lisa Matkin. She has also attended an Anusara intensive, taught by Nova Sprik and Linda Osterberg, which focused mainly on pranayama techniques, meditation and philosophy. Her most recent training was a seven-day Para Yoga Prana Masters training with Rod Stryker in Aspen, CO.
