Atwater on Gore Creek located at the Vail Cascade Resort will once again hold a dinner illuminated only by hundreds of candles on the evening of September 4, 2010. Not only a romantic and reflective evening, the experiential event will outline the resort’s commitment to Destination Earth, a program of the conservation of natural resources. This event has become a favorite of locals and visitors as a unique way to recognize the need for energy conservation and as a direct way to support a chosen cause: Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties.
“The donation by Atwater from this fun and inventive event is a welcome gift that will be used locally in our efforts at Habitat for Humanity of the Eagle and Lake Counties. We look forward to working with The Vail Cascade Resort on future projects that will benefit those in need,” stated Kristi Moon, Public Relations representative for Habitat for Humanity.
Kirsten Texler of the Vail Cascade Resort adds, “The first time we held this event last spring, we were amazed at the enthusiasm of both the diners and Atwater servers as they essentially floated through our signature Vail Cascade restaurant. Kids and adults had fun using ‘glow sticks’ to read the scrumptious menu that features local produce and sustainable dining options, and the flickering candles made everything even more special. Knowing that proceeds from the dinner helped Habitat was the final, perfect touch. We plan on continuing to hold the event on selected evenings throughout the year.”
By choosing to operate under minimum electricity and other power resources, the Vail Cascade Resort demonstrates a pledge to recognize the need to preserve the world in which we live, and shows dedication to practices and programs that pay respect to, and lessen our footprint on our changing environment.
Vail Cascade Resort adopted the Destination Earth program with the knowledge that the resort’s customers and associates all benefit from a healthy, sustainable environment. The property has a designated “green team” onsite and has made a commitment to pursuing the following ideals:
• Sourcing environmentally responsible services and products locally, and purchasing organic, environmentally friendly- and recycled supplies, whenever possible.
• Purchasing fresh and sustainable foods locally grown, whenever possible.
• Creating partnerships with other organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to preserving the environment.
• Leading associates in applying eco-friendly practices in their daily operations.
The candlelight dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. on September 4. Reservations for the candlelight dining experience are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 970-479-7104. For further information on the resort and restaurant, the website can be viewed at vailcascade.com.
