Atwater Beer Buzz September 13

Greetings! 

We’re continuing to get regular daily showers, and hope it continues when it’s snow!, but nothing like the Front Range is experiencing. Our heartfelt “dry” wishes to everyone who is bailing out and repairing water damage. We hope that you’re safe and sound, albeit wet.

We had an absolutely fantastic Sip, Savor & Brew Weekend with the Colorado Brewers Guild and special guests Leslie & Steve Kaczeus from Bootstrap Brewing Co., Brian Lutz from West Flanders Brewing Co., and Charlie Berger from Denver Beer Co.  Friday’s Meet the Brewmasters event was such a success & the energy so high that our bartender asked if the mountain had opened for ski season! 

Both the informal discussions and the Seminars had a bit of a historical twist over the course of the weekend, with talk about Colorado’s craft beer history, Denver Beer Co. revitalizing their piece of Denver, Brian Lutz talking about Belgian history and his tour of ancient brewery equipment, and Steve & Leslie Kaczeus making their mark in Niwot starting with “the ugliest building they could find.” Interwoven was a healthy dose of cutting edge technology, not the least of which are the internet based blogs that our media guests create and maintain. Both Eater Denver and Denver Off the Wagon spent the weekend with us.  Click here to see their first feedback from the weekend.

This chapter of Sip, Savor & Brew on Gore Creek featured a Small Plates menu showcasing one beer from each brewery (plus a fourth from Trinity Brewing Co.) and custom designed menu pairings by the Atwater on Gore Creek Culinary Team – as is customary. However, the feedback from these pairings was talk of “best ever”, with favorite pairings covering the gambit but favoring Bootstrap’s Merlot Aged 1956 Golden Ale paired with a Panzanella Salad, Watercress, Chervil, Spinach, Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Lemon and a Pork Cinnamon Roll with Apples, Raisins, Braised Greens, and Brandy Jus paired with Trinity Oh Face Saison Provisional. Delicious! And kudos to the Atwater Culinary Team for those amazing creations. 

Many thanks to John Carlson, Executive Director of the Colorado Brewers Guild, for gathering our brewers together for this amazing weekend and coordinating such an amazing panel of seminars and discussions. It was fantastic, and we look forward to next year! 

Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings continue to be quite popular, and Lucas was pouring his array of Oskar Blues products to a steady panel of guests and locals this week. Although there were several favorites among the selection, the Deuce, a hoppy brown ale only available at the tap room, was the buzz throughout the tasting. Many thanks to Lucas for his time, great selection of products, and knowledge that he shared with the crowd. 

Next Wednesday Odell Brewing Co. will be hosting our weekly complimentary tasting, and Brian Dillon will be bringing fun selections from their portfolio. Join us from 4:30 – 6:30pm in Fireside as usual, and enjoy 20% off of Small Plates while you’re at it. I’ll post Brian’s picks on the Atwater on Gore Creek facebook page in advance. We’ll see you there!

Atwater Beer Buzz September 13

Greetings from the golden cooler!

Fall is happening…the nights are crisper and everything is turning gold as we watch! What a beautiful time of the year, and all the more so due to the amazing seasonal craft beer offerings! We’ve got Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale and Avery The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest in bottles on the list now, Samuel Adams Octoberfest on draft, and Ayinger Oktoberfest & Dogfish Punkin’ Ale scheduled to rotate onto the list. There are so many other amazing options available…and if we move through these, we’ll bring more on board!

But before we get into more upcoming events, we'd like to share some of the highlights of our Colorado Brewers Guild Brewmaster’s Weekend. It was absolutely fantastic, and all attendees were excited about the diversity of the craft beers offered by Trinity, Three Barrel and Rockyard… as well as the incredible creativity of the brewers. It was an unprecedented opportunity at the Vail Cascade to try craft beer from three different Brewmasters, plus a diverse offering from other Colorado breweries via John Carlson of the Colorado Brewers Guild. 

The Brewmaster’s Dinner on Saturday evening was beautifully set up in a private room, so attendees had the luxury of mixing and mingling while sampling from the elaborate hors d’oeuvres station. The commentary between the seated courses was entertaining and informative, and John Carlson discussed the pairing for each previous course with the group before moving onto the next. The Atwater culinary team really rocked out the pairings & service; quite a lovely dinner. Thank you so much to Jason Yester from Trinity, Jim Stinson from Rockyard and John Bricker from Three Barrel for joining us and bringing their fantastic beers. Double-thanks to John Carlson for organizing everyone and making the event possible. Everyone is looking forward to a repeat of this dinner and perhaps we’ll expand capacity to more than 30 people as this one was so well-received with a waiting list. 

We’re rolling out our Wednesday Craft Happy Hour next Wednesday, September 19th in Fireside Bar with Breckenridge Brewery! Come join us for two complimentary hours of tasty Breckenridge beers, perfect to pair with our small plates, pizzas, or a fantastic dining experience. There will be a drawing prior to each Brewmaster’s Weekend, and the winner will receive a complimentary night at the Vail Cascade and two seats for our Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing with the Brewmaster and Executive Chef Todd Bemis.  You’ll enter to win on our online sweepstakes page, and can choose the event(s) that you would like to be eligible for. Everything should be set up next week for my email, and we'll send you all copies of the information. The Sweepstakes runs through our event in April, so we’ll be running it for almost all of ski season. 

Now – for this week’s update! As mentioned earlier, we have added Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale to our list, and are looking forward to more seasonal goodies as they roll in.  We have also started the new draft rotation with New Belgium 1554, so you’ve got new blood in both of our Friday flights!
