Atwater Beer Buzz October 21

Greetings from the world of crunchy white stuff!

Well, if this is practice, it’s going to be a splendid ski season in Vail. We’re consistently getting snow; enough that we’ve decided that the impossibly short Fall is really over - and we need to go find the stashes of snow & get our skis ready to go!

It was a fantastic Great American Beer Festival in Denver last week, and wonderful to see so many of our beer industry friends. I was excited to see some of our local regulars to the Vail Cascade Craft Beer Program having fun in the Farm to Table Pavilion! That was a super bright spot in my weekend. ´üŐ

If you’re interested in seeing more about the Great American Beer Festival, you can learn more here: http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/┬áand if you’d like to peruse the award winning breweries and their beers, you can find them here: http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/the-competition/winners/.┬áThe Farm to Table Pavilion was a real treat, with terrific brewers, beers, chefs, and food pairings. Kudos to everyone who makes this wonderful festival happen at the Brewers Association!

This week’s Wednesday Craft Beer Tasting was all about Goose Island Beer Co., and Robin brought a variety of stylistic choices that seemed to make everyone happy. In addition to enjoying Matilda, Pere Jacques and Goose Island IPA, there was a lot of interest in learning about the brewery. Many people did not know yet that we can get Goose Island in Colorado, and I’m sure more will be looking for them wherever they live. (Colorado or not) Many thanks to Robin for her time and gracious donation of great beer and product knowledge.

Next week’s host will be Ska Brewing Co., and Casey Ryan will be pouring a selection of Ska products from Durango, CO. He’s talking about including Ska True Blonde Ale (Gold medal at the GABF this year!), Euphoria Pale Ale, Ska ESB and Modus Hoperandi. As always, the tasting is complimentary, from 4:30 – 6:30pm, in the Fireside Bar, with 20% off Small Plates during the tasting. The Cajun Snack Mix is establishing its own following, too!

This week also marks the beginning of the Aria Athletic Club’s renowned Ski Conditioning program. This started off with a bang on Monday, and we celebrated the first week with a Ski Conditioning party on Wednesday evening. Many thanks to Epic Brewing Co. for sponsoring the party and bringing tasty treats for everyone to enjoy. Ariell poured Blue Ski Lager (ever so appropriate!!), Sour Apple Saison, Imperial IPA and Copper Cone Pale Ale. I’d have to say that the Copper Cone might have bested the Sour Apple in overall feedback, but everything was very well received and highly appreciated.┬á Thanks again to Epic and Ariell!
