Atwater Beer Buzz November 25

Happy Thanksgiving Week!

The mountain is open, it’s beautiful up there, and there’s turkey in the oven! That’s a pretty nice combo from where I’m sitting, and I think you should come up and join us! We also have our Brewmaster’s Weekend information finalized, so that’s exciting, too…

The final Brewmaster’s Weekend of 2013 is coming up quickly! Steve “Fletch” Fletcher from AC Golden Brewing Co. will be hosting our Brewmaster’s Weekend on December 6 & 7. Come “Meet the Brewmaster” on Friday from 4 – 7pm and sample several different AC Golden products while visiting with Fletch. We’ll also have AC Golden specials going throughout the weekend.

Saturday at 6pm in Atwater on Gore Creek is our Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing event, featuring four AC Golden products paired with four Small Plates created by the Atwater Culinary Team for this evening. Steve Fletcher will be giving a guided tour through each beer of the evening, while the culinary team gives insight and discusses each course in turn. It’s a terrific evening for a mere $25++/person. You can reserve your seats by emailing Laura or calling 970-479-1514. The full menu is now available.  View/print the flyer/menu for the entire weekend.

In other exciting Brewmaster’s Weekend news, we have a winner for our Atwater Sweepstakes!  Colleen Wirth is our December Sweepstakes Winner, and we’re excited to host Colleen & her husband for Saturday night at the Vail Cascade in addition to offering two complimentary seats for the Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing event. Congratulations Colleen!

Our final Wednesday Craft Beer Tasting for 2013 was quite successful, and Skylar had a steady stream of happy guests and locals throughout the session. It was the first showing of Christmas beers at the Vail Cascade, and Upslope Christmas had great reviews, as did the Upslope IPA and Brown. Many thanks to Skylar for his time, great products and sharing with all of our attendees!

Ski Conditioning at the Aria Fitness Club also had a celebratory wrap up on Wednesday evening, and Ski Conditioning athletes were treated to a selection of Left Hand products at their reception following the final workout. Most popular, without question, was the newly released Left Hand Wake Up Dead Nitro with  Milk Stout Nitro, Polestar Pilsner and (regular) Sawtooth also establishing quite a following.  We appreciate Linn from CR Goodman for filling in for Sarah, and thank Sarah and the team at Left Hand for the tasty treats and support!

Thank you for supporting the Veteran's

My thank you is just a little late but still felt I should post something here. My sister & I (both Veterans) stayed there over Veteran's Day weekend and were surprised by the Atwater's Veteran's Day wknd special. We ended up having dinner one night and the breakfast buffet one morning. I ordered the filet and it was delicious as well as the skillet focaccia bread!! Service was great and Josh was/is a good server. I have to say the service was a bit slower for the breakfast buffet but still a great buffet! My sister & I have traveled all over the state this yr and this is by far the best buffet, even w/o the omelete bar! :-) Thank you Vail Cascades & Atwater for supporting us Veterans! :-) It is appreicated and thought you should know.

Cody Butters hosted our Wednesday Craft Beer Tasting this week, and showcased her infamous Colorado Native as well as AC Golden’s Apricot Sour. There were some that were new to sour beers, and some attendees who have now found their ultimate beer – whether one or the other. Everyone had a great time, and we absolutely appreciate Cody’s time, products and expertise! If you missed her this time, you’ll get to meet her in December for Brewmaster’s Weekend.

Next week, for our final Wednesday Craft Beer Tasting of the Fall season, Skylar Schalit will be joining us from Upslope Brewing Co. Atwater Beer Buzz November 11

Happy Veteran’s Day!

The Vail Cascade is pleased to honor our veterans with a complimentary entrée at Atwater on Gore Creek this evening in appreciation for their service to us and to our country. If you are a veteran, please join us this evening for a delicious meal on us.

Although this is generally a slower time of the year, there’s a tremendous amount going on at the Vail Cascade – both for our upcoming Brewmaster’s Weekend and with conferences and group events at the resort. Here’s a quick update:

December 6 & 7 is Brewmaster’s Weekend with Steve Fletcher, Head Brewer at AC Golden Brewing Co. Fletch will be hosting our traditional Meet the Brewmaster event in Fireside on Friday from 4 – 7pm, offering complimentary samples of a variety of AC Golden products and visiting with attendees. This is complimentary & open to the public, and you are welcome to share in the fun any time throughout the event.

Saturday, December 7th will be our Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing at 6:00pm in Atwater on Gore Creek. This is a more formal dining experience featuring four AC Golden craft beers paired with four Small Plates created by the Atwater on Gore Creek Culinary Team. Steve Fletcher will once again be hosting this event, this time with the Atwater Chefs, and both will discuss the beer and food pairing for each course throughout the event. Cost is $25++/person, and reservations are suggested. You can either email Laura or call 970-479-1514 to hold your seats if you like.

The Atwater team has already completed their menu tasting for the Small Plates event, and I will be pleased to share with you the AC Golden beers that they have selected in your next email.

Wednesday’s Craft Beer Tasting was extremely busy this past week, as we had a group of 300+ people in house for a conference that were in between events for that time period. Lots of people from around the country tried the new Left Hand Wake Up Dead Nitro and Left Hand Sawtooth Nitro, as well as traditional Sawtooth (for comparison) and Milk Stout Nitro for fun. Sarah was impressed with the variety of places throughout the United States represented at her tasting table in Fireside, and was reaching out to the Left Hand community about people that expressed an interest in purchasing their products in other states. Thanks to Sarah for her time, new products and savvy info!

This week our Wednesday host will be Cody Butters with AC Golden Brewing Co., who will be showcasing Colorado Native as well as AC Golden’s Apricot Sour. Please join us! Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings are held in Fireside from 4:30 – 6:30pm, are complimentary and open to the public. Please note that there are two Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings left for this Fall season, and that they will be discontinued for the ski season.

Although there isn’t anything new on the craft beer list this week, several items are on the verge of changing, so stay tuned for more!

Flights and Bites continues from 3 – 6pm every day, featuring 50% off of the Small Plate of your choice when you order a Craft Draft Flight. The current draft selection is as follows:

  • Prost Weisbier
  • Hoegaarden
  • Samuel Adams Octoberfest
  • Epic Escape to Colorado IPA
  • Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown

We hope to see many veterans in Atwater on Gore Creek this evening, and wish you all a wonderful week!

Thank you so much for your support!

Atwater Beer Buzz November 1

Greetings!

The snow angels have appeared, and with them about 10” of snow …and more on the way! It’s promising to be an amazing winter season so far, and we’re excited to be skiing in three weeks. That’s coming up really fast!

This week flew by, highlighted by a visit to Avery Brewing Co. in Boulder with Chefs Jay Spickelmier and Adam Smith on Wednesday. This trip is an annual favorite, preparing the menu for the Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Calibration Dinner featuring Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and Adam Avery from Avery Brewing Co. Our team tasted all of the beers that will be presented for the dinner and paired them into courses, brainstorming about food all the while. Several key members from the Avery Brewing team and Marketing team participated in the tasting, which is always amazing. Thanks to the Avery world for their hospitality!

Tonight a VIP group of travel agency executives came in for dinner and we prepared a special craft beer pairing dinner for them. It was a tremendous success, and we’re proud to feature craft beer with the fantastic cuisine that the Atwater chefs prepare. It’s a wonderful combination!

This Wednesday Tracey brought wonderful treats from Great Divide and poured for an extremely interested crowd during the snow storm. Everyone who was stuck on this side of the pass was happy to be in Fireside tasting Great Divide Nomad, Hibernation, Hoss, and more. Thanks so much to Tracey for her time and tasty beers! We, unfortunately, were on the other side of Vail Pass coming back from Avery and weren’t able to get back in time for the tasting.

Next Wednesday Sarah Hautamaki will be bringing in several new Left Hand Brewing Co. products for us to try. She’s excited to showcase Left Hand Sawtooth Nitro and Wake Up Dead Nitro for you, and will be bringing Milk Stout Nitro just for fun. The regular Sawtooth will be here for comparison, and who knows what else….? It’s the usual formula: Fireside Bar, 4:30 – 6:30pm, complimentary tasting + 20% off Small Plates. We’ll see you then!

Flights & Bites continues from 3 – 6pm daily, and we’re maintaining the Fall/Early Winter Craft Draft rotation for now:

  • Prost Weisbier
  • Hoegaarden
  • Samuel Adams Octoberfest
  • Epic Escape to Colorado IPA
  • Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown

Have a wonderful weekend, and remember that we’re here with our 3 for $33 promotion in Atwater as well as 20% off entrees for Vail Valley locals. It’s prime time for discounted room rates, too…so a get-away weekend might not be a bad idea before the holidays begin.

Thanks so much for your support of our craft beer program!
