Atwater Beer Buzz September 28

Like a postcard.

That’s what today looks like, with the deeply intense blue sky, bright warm sunshine, cool breeze, and all of the summer greenery intact with hints of gold creeping in. We call that sky “Colorado blue”, but not everyone will connect with that in the same way. Regardless, it’s pretty perfect and we love to soak it up for as long as it lasts!

It was an intense week this week, with a lot of our own VIPs in house, so we showcased our craft beer program with Atwater food pairings for their Reception/Dinner on Tuesday. Ten different food & beer pairings were featured at stations around Atwater, including such varied extremes as our Albacore Tuna Tacos paired with Elysian Avatar Jasmine IPA and Fried Almond Butter and Preserve Sandwiches (translation: Upscale Deep Fried PB&J) paired with Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. Everything was very well-received, and I think we might have surprised a couple of wine drinkers with the outstanding pairings!

Wednesday’s Craft Beer Tasting was likewise on stage. Although it wasn’t formally on their schedule, those that found their way to Fireside Bar were interested to sample and learn about the varied selection of New Belgium products that Jeff Kurtenbach brought with him. From Fat Tire to Giddy Up and all of the hops in between (Shift, Ranger & Rampant)…with a little Pumpkick for the season, everything was very well-received. Requests for Giddy Up to be packaged individually have been formally presented. Many thanks to Jeff for his time, effort and great products!

Next week, mark your calendars for Elizabeth Kagan to show you some Firestone Walker products! As is traditional, Fireside Bar, 4:30 – 6:30pm with 20% off Small Plates. Elizabeth is planning to bring Firestone Walker DBA, Pale 31, Union Jack, Velvet Merlin, Double Jack and Wookey Jack for your sampling pleasure.

Nothing is new on the craft beer list this week, although we expect to see another draft rotation happening in the very near future. That said, Flights & Bites continues with 50% off the Small Plate of your choice when you purchase a Craft Draft Flight, which currently is:

  • Prost Weisbier
  • Oskar Blues Mamma’s Little Yella Pils
  • Samuel Adams Octoberfest
  • Great Divide Rumble IPA
  • Ohara's Irish Stout

Enjoy a beautiful fall weekend, and come visit us for our 3 for $33 special or 20% off entrees for locals if you’re in the area! We’ve got Elysian Night Owl and Epic Imperial Pumpkin Porter for our pumpkin offerings at the moment…and if you ask, you can probably score a Dogfish Head Punkin, too!

Thank you so much for your support of our craft beer program! You make it all possible.

Atwater Beer Buzz September 20

Fall is in the air!

You wouldn’t know it by looking at the aspen trees yet, but it just got substantially cooler in the last couple of days. I’m sure the beautiful gold blanket is just around the corner. It certainly is an exciting time for craft beer, too, as you get into the Fall seasonals and bigger, more complex flavors. ‘Pumpkin everything’ seems to be the hype, so we’re bringing in a variety to keep your taste buds hopping! We’ve enjoyed Shipyard Pumpkinhead and New Belgium Pumpkick, currently have Epic Imperial Pumpkin Porter and Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin on our list, and are looking forward to Dogfish Punkin and perhaps some Upslope Pumpkin…plus Oktoberfests, Weisses, and all sorts of Fall spirit.

We have a really busy Fall season this year, with conferences and other group gatherings filling up the weeks – and weekend escapees taking over on the weekends. The Colorado Grand has been here this week, and our parking garage looks like a museum with all of the fantastic cars! Looking forward, our next Brewmaster’s Weekend will be December 6 & 7. Steve Fletcher will be coming up from AC Golden, showcasing products from their largely experimental world.  It will be a traditional weekend, with the Meet the Brewmaster event on Friday evening and Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing on Saturday at 6pm.

Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings continue to be steady and quite popular. Brian Dillon poured for a diverse crowd of locals and guests this week, and the Odell products were very well received. Certainly the hop heads always enjoy the IPA and ‘lighter’ drinkers soak up the 90 Shilling, but there was a lot of discussion about the Odell portfolio with this crowd, enjoying everything that was in their glass. A nice compliment! Many thanks to Brian for his time, sharing his knowledge, and bringing great products to sample.

Next Wednesday Jeff Kurtenbach from New Belgium Brewing Co is slated to host our tasting, so mark your calendar from 4:30 – 6:30pm and join us in Fireside Bar to sample a selection of New Belgium products. Small Plates will once again be 20% off for the duration of the tasting, so come enjoy!

New on our craft beer list this week are the following:

  • Prost Weisbier, Hefeweisen, Denver, CO (draft)
  • Avery Maharaja, Imperial IPA, Boulder, CO
  • Left Hand Stranger Pale Ale, Longmont, CO

Flights & Bites continues with an ever-rotating lineup. It’s changing in an unpredictable fashion this time, so it’s perpetually a surprise. Right now, the offering is:

  • Prost Weisbier
  • Oskar Blues Mamma’s Little Yella Pils
  • Samuel Adams Octoberfest
  • Great Divide Rumble IPA
  • Ohara’s Irish Stout

We have several different ‘special’ reasons to dine at Atwater on Gore Creek right now, including our 3 courses for $33 special and a locals promotion offering a 20% discount on entrees. Come down to relax on our creekside patio with a delicious seasonal craft beer…and have a fantastic weekend!

Thanks for your support of our Craft Beer Program.

Atwater Beer Buzz September 13

We’re continuing to get regular daily showers, and hope it continues when it’s snow!, but nothing like the Front Range is experiencing. Our heartfelt “dry” wishes to everyone who is bailing out and repairing water damage. We hope that you’re safe and sound, albeit wet.

We had an absolutely fantastic Sip, Savor & Brew Weekend with the Colorado Brewers Guild and special guests Leslie & Steve Kaczeus from Bootstrap Brewing Co., Brian Lutz from West Flanders Brewing Co., and Charlie Berger from Denver Beer Co.  Friday’s Meet the Brewmasters event was such a success & the energy so high that our bartender asked if the mountain had opened for ski season!

Both the informal discussions and the Seminars had a bit of a historical twist over the course of the weekend, with talk about Colorado’s craft beer history, Denver Beer Co. revitalizing their piece of Denver, Brian Lutz talking about Belgian history and his tour of ancient brewery equipment, and Steve & Leslie Kaczeus making their mark in Niwot starting with “the ugliest building they could find.” Interwoven was a healthy dose of cutting edge technology, not the least of which are the internet based blogs that our media guests create and maintain. Both Eater Denver and Denver Off the Wagon spent the weekend with us.  Click here to see their first feedback from the weekend.

This chapter of Sip, Savor & Brew on Gore Creek featured a Small Plates menu showcasing one beer from each brewery (plus a fourth from Trinity Brewing Co.) and custom designed menu pairings by the Atwater on Gore Creek Culinary Team – as is customary. However, the feedback from these pairings was talk of “best ever”, with favorite pairings covering the gambit but favoring Bootstrap’s Merlot Aged 1956 Golden Ale paired with a Panzanella Salad, Watercress, Chervil, Spinach, Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Lemon and a Pork Cinnamon Roll with Apples, Raisins, Braised Greens, and Brandy Jus paired with Trinity Oh Face Saison Provisional. Delicious! And kudos to the Atwater Culinary Team for those amazing creations.

Many thanks to John Carlson, Executive Director of the Colorado Brewers Guild, for gathering our brewers together for this amazing weekend and coordinating such an amazing panel of seminars and discussions. It was fantastic, and we look forward to next year!

Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings continue to be quite popular, and Lucas was pouring his array of Oskar Blues products to a steady panel of guests and locals this week. Although there were several favorites among the selection, the Deuce, a hoppy brown ale only available at the tap room, was the buzz throughout the tasting. Many thanks to Lucas for his time, great selection of products, and knowledge that he shared with the crowd.

Next Wednesday Odell Brewing Co. will be hosting our weekly complimentary tasting, and Brian Dillon will be bringing fun selections from their portfolio. Join us from 4:30 – 6:30pm in Fireside as usual, and enjoy 20% off of Small Plates while you’re at it. I’ll post Brian’s picks on the Atwater on Gore Creek facebook page in advance. We’ll see you there!

New on our craft beer list this week are:

  • Avery Twenty, Imperial IPA, Boulder, CO (cellar list)
  • Dogfish Head Festina Peche, neo-Berliner Weisse, Milton, DE
  • Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale, Seattle, WA
  • Elevation Little Mo Porter, Poncha Springs, CO

Flights and Bites continue this week, with 50% off of your choice of a Small Plate with the purchase of a Craft Draft Flight. The current flight continues, although changes are imminent:

  • Goose Island Honkers Ale
  • Samuel Adams Octoberfest
  • Great Divide Rumble IPA
  • Mendocino Eye of the Hawk
  • Ohara’s Irish Stout

The leaves are starting to change to gold, one leaf at a time, and we’re looking forward to a glorious Fall.

Thanks so much for your support of our craft beer program, and stay dry out there!

Atwater Beer Buzz September 5

Greetings all!

A brief update this week, as we prepare for our Sip, Savor & Brew Weekend with the Colorado Brewers Guild this Friday & Saturday! There are spaces still available for the weekend experience without lodging, which is $69++/person. I’ve attached the flyer about the whole weekend, including schedule…and the Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing menu.

Please remember that you can join us for the Meet the Brewmaster session on Friday afternoon from 4–7pm at no charge, and that you can attend the Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing event on Saturday evening at 6pm a la carte as well. It’s $25++/person for a four course guided tour by the Brewmasters and the Atwater Culinary Team through the following menu:

Denver Beer Co. Cascara Pale Ale

Colorado Lamb Lollipop
gouda mushroom duxelle beggars purse

Bootstrap Merlot Barrel Aged 1956 Golden Ale

Panzanella Salad
watercress, chervil, spinach, extra virgin olive oil, lemon

Trinity Oh Face Saison Provisional

Pork Cinnamon Roll
apples, raisins, braised greens, brandy jus

West Flanders Angry Monk

Sticky Toffee Cake
salted caramel cayenne sauce

It’s going to be delicious, hands down. If you’d like to reserve your seat for the Small Plates Pairing OR for the entire weekend of craft beer-centric events, please let me know. You can email Laura or call 970-479-1514.

Wednesday Tastings continue to be a delicious and social way to take a break in the week, and thanks to Kelly Garoutte for her delicious Deschutes offerings this afternoon. They were very well-received by a steady stream of guests and locals over the two hours, and it would be tough to pick a favorite from the feedback. The Deschutes River Ale got terrific reviews, but the Chainbreaker gets the IPA vote plus some of the ‘I don’t usually like IPAs’ drinkers, and the Black Butte Porter impressed and converted people across the board.

Next Wednesday’s host for the Wednesday Craft Beer Tasting is Lucas Allen from Oskar Blues Brewing Co. Join us in Fireside from 4:30 – 6:30pm for complimentary samples of Oskar Blues products and welcome Lucas to his new territory up here! We’re still offering 20% off Small Plates during that time period as well to complete your afternoon treat.

New on the craft beer list this week are:

  • Shipyard Pumpkinhead, Portland, ME
  • Goose Island Honkers Ale, ESB, Chicago, IL (draft)
  • Odell Celestrina Saison, Ft. Collins, CO (lg format)

Our Flights and Bites daily feature from 3 – 6pm, is continuing to rotate with this (quite) slow draft selection change. Right now there’s an awful lots of amber-ish styles in there, but there are still two more handles to convert:

  • Goose Island Honkers Ale
  • Samuel Adams Octoberfest
  • Great Divide Rumble IPA
  • Mendocino Eye of the Hawk
  • Ohara’s Irish Stout

Hope to see you all this weekend for Sip, Savor & Brew. It’s going to be an amazing weekend, with amazing Brewmasters, amazing craft beer, and amazing camaraderie!

Thanks so much – as always – for your support of our craft beer program.
