2 days and counting! 

We’re really excited about our first ever Sip, Savor & Brew on Gore Creek weekend…coming up this weekend! Kevin DeLange and Bill Eye are dialed in with the final planning arrangements, and will be here on Friday for a weekend full of Dry Dock and Prost craft beer.

Friday from 4 – 7 pm they will be hosting “Meet the Brewmasters”, which is an opportunity for you to visit and sample the variety of products that they are bringing with them in the informal atmosphere of Fireside Bar. Both Dry Dock and Prost are relatively new to the distribution aspect of the brewing world, so their beers are very new to the Vail Valley and you may have not tried them unless you live in their respective neighborhoods in the Denver area. 

If you have purchased a weekend Sip, Savor & Brew event pass, your evening will continue at 8pm with an informal discussion of craft beer as we look forward into the future. “The Future of Craft Beer” is highly speculative, and both Kevin and Bill have been in the craft beer industry long enough to have some ideas of where we will be going. 

With the weekend event pass, you’ll close out your evening with a craft beer dessert around 9pm. A pretty tasty way to end an ideal day! 

Saturday morning will be your personal mountain adventure, whatever that might be. Everything active from a half day raft trip to zip lining or mountain biking, to sleeping in and enjoying a massage at Aria Spa or jumping into the infinity pool overlooking Gore Creek… I’m sure it will be a fantastic way to roll out the day. We’ve left it open for you to play as you like! 

Sip, Savor & Brew pass holders begin the craft beer portion of the day at 2:30pm in Atwater on Gore Creek for a seminar on “Cheese & Charcuterie”. Kevin DeLange and Bill Eye will be presenting both seminars jointly, and this one promises some neat flavor combinations. The beers to be presented for pairing are Prost Pilsner, Prost Alt, Dry Dock Ambassador Sour and Dry Dock Double IPA. 

Pass holders will continue in MountainView for the second seminar, titled “World Beer Cultures”. I don’t even know which beers they are bringing to recreate the cultures on your palate, but it is certain to be a wide variety. It would probably be safe to speculate that Bill Eye will be discussing German beer culture and its history, as Prost has been challenged to create its American counterpart. 

Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing is next on the list at 6pm in Atwater, and you can reserve seats individually for this event if you don’t have a weekend Sip, Savor & Brew event pass. They are $25, and include a guided tour through 4 beers by their Brewmasters along with an informative discussion of the four small plates created around them by the Atwater culinary team. If you haven’t experienced one of these before, they are a fantastic way to adventure with food pairings. I have attached the menu for your convenience. 

As with Friday evening, weekend Sip, Savor & Brew pass holders will join the Brewmasters for a second informal discussion at 8pm, this time about “Session Beers”, and the craft beer portion of the weekend wraps up around 9pm with another craft beer dessert. 

Dry Dock and Prost both make some fantastic craft beers, are led by fantastic people, and we are delighted to host them this weekend. Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings are really, really rocking it out these past couple of weeks, and this evening Brian Dillon didn’t stop pouring until the 6:30pm mark was imminent. A summertime assortment of Odell beers was on the plate tonight, and it would be tough to call a favorite for the evening. Odell St. Lupulin garnered a ton of praise, as did the Odell Double Pilsner, but there were plenty of folks who were right in there enjoying Levity and Easy Street Wheat. Many thanks to Brian for the 2 hour endurance run! 

Next Wednesday mark your calendars for Upslope Brewing Co. from Boulder, CO. Skylar will be here with a variety of treats, and will be available from 4:30 – 6:30pm in Fireside as per the usual format. I will post his beverage plan on our Atwater on Gore Creek facebook page when I know what it will be. Our $2 pizza slices will once again make their appearance: Classic Margherita, Buffalo Chicken Wing, and The Carnivore. In a nutshell, all the ingredients for the perfect evening escape! 

Back to the present, our draft selection is still rotating to the new lineup while Flights & Bites continues daily. Your small plate of choice comes at 50% off when you order it with a Craft Draft Flight. Right now, the flight is:

Atwater Beer Buzz June 20


Our mountain hideaway is in full summertime mode, and we had a busy weekend with our Tough Mudder & Wounded Warrior guests flowing into a full complement of lacrosse athletes and their families. Our Tough Mudder team from the Cascade rocked it through the obstacles and was triumphant! What an amazing accomplishment. That the Wounded Warriors support each other to complete the same intimidating course is nothing short of unbelievable. I have such admiration for their spirit and teamwork.

Sip, Savor & Brew on Gore Creek is coming up quickly! Mark your calendars – if they aren’t already – for June 28th & 29th for an amazing weekend of craft beer with Kevin DeLange of Dry Dock Brewing Co. and Bill Eye of Prost Brewing Co. Our Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings are really hoppin’, and a big thank you to Elizabeth Kagan with Firestone Walker for bringing all of her goodies for our locals and guests to sample yesterday. I think the hands down favorite was the Firestone Walker Summer Solace, especially given the hot summer day. However, DBA had its fans and the hopheads were really psyched to try three different IPAs: Union Jack, Double Jack and Wookey Jack. It’s been busy…sometimes crazy!

Next Wednesday you can look forward to tasting an assortment of Odell Brewing Co craft beers, and visiting with Brian Dillon. As usual, complimentary samples will be available from 4:30 – 6:30pm in Fireside Bar and $2 pizza slices are up for your dining pleasure. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Atwater Beer Buzz June 13


It’s still sunshine and raging rivers, so Summer seems to all of a sudden be here! It was a wonderful, crazy weekend of GoPro Mountain Games, climbing, running, kayaking, dog races and more.  And our Atwater summer menu is likewise in gear!

Samples from our new menu include a fantastic, heaping Kale BLT Salad with avocado, red onion, tomatoes and blue cheese with a delicious bacon vinaigrette - pairs nicely with a Belgian Wit, like the Avery White Rascal or Hitachino Nest White currently on our list- or the Pan Seared Boulder Trout with black lentil ragout, golden lentil puree, stewed peppers & shaved fennel - pairing very nicely with a White IPA, like Deschutes Chainbreaker on our list, and the Devil’s Food Cake with housemade strawberry ice cream and vanilla anglaise…delightfully blends with a Vanilla Porter, like Bonfire Vanilla Porter or Breckenridge Vanilla Porter…both currently on our list. Come check it out!

Thanks a ton to Shag from Avery for treating our guests and locals to treats this afternoon. It was a busy, busy evening, and I don’t think anyone had time to breathe….but they certainly sampled some amazing Avery beers! Avery White Rascal, Karma, IPA, the entire Holy Trinity lineup + Avery’s 20th Anniversary IPA. Shag most definitely rocked the house! 

Next Wednesday look forward to visiting with Elizabeth Kagan from Firestone Walker – mark your calendars now! I’ll update the Atwater on Gore Creek facebook world when I know exactly what she’s planning to bring. Fireside Bar, 4:30 – 6:30pm, Wednesday…with $2 slices of pizza to boot! 

Thanks also to Sarah and the team at Left Hand Brewing Co. for sponsoring the first Aria Club member BBQ at the pool! It was a beautiful day to be drinking Left Hand Juju Ginger…(maybe “Good Juju” now)…in the sunshine and play in the water. Members also were psyched to taste Stranger American Pale Ale, Sawtooth ESB, 400 Pound Monkey, and Milk Stout. A wonderful time was had by all!

Anyone can pop a cap and pour a craft beer, but only a Cicerone Certified Beer Server (CCBS) can expertly guide patrons that need help ordering a great craft beer. The Cicerone Certification Program offers independent assessment and certification so that industry professionals—as well as consumers—can be sure of the knowledge and skills possessed by their beer servers. In Atwater on Gore Creek, there are several servers enrolled in the program and slated to earn certification this summer. So next time you're dining on property ask to speak to a CCBS for an enhanced craft beer experience at altitude!

Atwater Beer Buzz June 7

Greetings from the land of blue skies and sunshine! 

It’s been a beautiful week in Vail, with more green leaves and flowers showing their faces – and locals excited for summer. The rivers are rising with the snowmelt, and it’s prime time for a rafting adventure. We can still see snowpack up there, though, so I think it’s going to be a bit before we can climb the 14rs. The GoPro Mountain Summer Games are this weekend, so we’re looking forward to seeing the climbers, kayakers, dog races, and all of the other competitors & competitions happening here in our backyard.

Onward with more events! Thanks to Sarah Hautamaki from Left Hand Brewing Co. for showing her Left Hand lineup for our Wednesday Craft Beer Tasting this week. Guests were loving the Good Juju and Milk Stout, with the Stranger American Pale Ale and Sawtooth ESB as favorites as well. Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout garnered extra credit points for the busy 2 hour period.

Aria Club is holding its first Member BBQ for the summer next Tuesday, and would like to thank Sarah and Left Hand Brewing Co. for their sponsorship! Held out by the pool at Aria, the BBQs are always a not-to-miss event, with food, beverages (Left Hand!) and a ton of fun for members and their families. It’s been a goal for our craft beer program to have craft brewery presence & support for these special events, and we thank all of the breweries for their support!

We continued with more Cicerone Beer Server Certification review sessions today, and have a new Certified Beer Server in the house! I’m hoping to have several more by the time this email comes out next week, so stay tuned…
