Vail's Atwater on Gore Creek Featued in USAToday.com and About.com

Located at Vail Cascade Resort, Atwater on Gore Creek, Vail’s signature creek-side restaurant, is an authentic Colorado grill offering a journey through the world of creative cuisine, handcrafted brews, customized beer flights and artisan food pairings.

Atwater was recently featured in a roundup article on USATODAY.com, highlighting the “10 must-do things from Breckenridge to Steamboat”. The article spotlights Atwater’s Colorado-grown beef and expert wine and beer pairings. In addition to USATODAY, the journalist, Aimee Heckel, also wrote an article in About.com, listing Atwater as one of the top “5 best restaurants in Vail, Colorado”.  We couldn't agree more, Aimee!

Atwater Beer Buzz August 11

We love summer!

It's true that many of the Vail Valley locals moved here for the skiing and snowboarding and ended up staying for summer. The weather, the mountains, all of the outdoor activities and the cultural opportunities - like the Vail International Dance Festival - are simply unbeatable. It's all happening right now…and much of it with craft beer woven in!

Our Brewmaster's Weekends have been amazing this year, and our July Oskar Blues Brewmaster's Weekend was no exception. Brian Shaeffer, Head Brewer for Oskar Blues in Longmont, CO, held court and poured beers throughout Friday's Meet the Brewmaster event in Fireside for a very successful tasting. We even ended up stealing a little beer from Saturday's event stash because he kept running out. Nothing showcases success quite like running out of beer!

Saturday's Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing really was a delicious treat, and there was extensive debate about the "best pairing" of the evening. Votes were cast for the Chilean seabass with charred leek, purple potato, artichoke, and cardamom carrot puree paired with Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale, and also for the Lamb Kabobs with passion fruit and green chili paired with Oskar Blues Pinner Throwback IPA. There were comments, too, about how the pomegranate pearl onions on the Braised Ox Tail dish paired with Oskar Blues G'Knight Imperial Red Ale really brought the pairing together in such a spectacular way. And Executive Chef Chris Bates wowed everyone with his patio demonstration station for the dessert course, flambéeing stone fruit and serving it in a coconut shell with almond madeline cakes, spiced rum, and whipped cream. Pairing that with Oskar Blues Death by Coconut, which you really can't find anywhere, was the literal icing on the cake.

Many thanks to Brian Shaeffer for taking the time to come up to join us, and for sharing his knowledge and amazing beers. Since he hails from the Vail Valley, we're hoping that we have a little extra leverage to bring him up again soon!

Looking forward on our calendar, preparations are already happening for our September Brewmaster's Weekend with Epic Brewing Co. Dave Cole, founder and co-owner of Epic Brewing Co., will be coming out from Salt Lake City to join us for the weekend of September 11 & 12. Epic opened in Salt Lake City, and has now built a beautiful new brewery in Denver, so visiting is a whole lot easier. The beers that Dave selects could have been brewed in Denver and may hail from Utah…we'll just have to wait and see!

If you're interested in holding your place at the Epic Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing event on September 12, please let me know or call the Atwater Reservations team at 970.479.7014. As is traditional, the Friday tasting from 4 - 7pm in Fireside Bar will be complimentary, and the Small Plates event on Saturday at 6pm in Atwater on Gore Creek is $35++ per person.

In other Vail Cascade craft beer news, the team at Samuel Adams has decreed that Autumn is approaching and we are now offering Samuel Adams Octoberfest on draft. The other draft rotations will be happening soon as well. You can look forward to Odell Loose Leaf, Left Hand Polestar Pilsner, Great Divide Titan IPA, and Rogue Hazelnut Brown Ale as we kick the kegs from the summer rotation.

Our Fireside Feature is about to rotate as well, so make plans to stop by for one of the last Upslope Thai Style White IPAs….or jump right in when Avery Perzik takes its place.

And last, but not least, we have added Crabtree Ginger Bee and Maui Coconut Porter to the regular bottle list.

We look forward to seeing you soon, and hope you're enjoying summertime wherever you are!
